A path to England opens for Anatoliy Trubin

Speculation over the future of Benfica's Ukrainian goalkeeper is sending a strong signal towards England. According to the report, Real Madrid have joined Tottenham and Aston Villa in showing interest in Anatoliy Trubin. The 24-year-old is said to be open to leaving Benfica and wants to test himself in the Premier League; Benfica are reported to be prepared to sell for the right offer, with bids expected to arrive soon.

There are, however, conflicting signals over how concrete Real Madrid's interest actually is. According to a report from OneFootball published just hours earlier, Real Madrid's hierarchy are not planning a goalkeeper change this window and are not keeping Trubin on their shortlist; the connection is said to stem from new Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho, who knows the player from their time together at Benfica, though the scenario has for now been ruled out. This leaves the picture somewhat uncertain.

The player's career story, meanwhile, offers solid figures. Signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 and under contract until 2028 with a €100 million release clause, Trubin made 50 appearances in the Primeira Liga last season with around 20 clean sheets, also making headlines with a dramatic 98th-minute header against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Both English suitors have their own reasoning. Tottenham's interest is reinforced by the player's desire to reunite with Roberto De Zerbi, whom he knows from Shakhtar. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are considering Trubin as a successor candidate should Emiliano Martinez depart. On the fee, sources diverge significantly: some reports point to a range of €25-40 million, while Benfica are said to be unwilling to sell for less than €40 million.
