Manchester United open talks to sign Eduardo Camavinga

Manchester United's midfield rebuild has expanded to include a new name. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are considering Real Madrid's French star Eduardo Camavinga alongside Roma's Manu Kone in internal discussions as they look to sign a third midfielder this summer. United's desired profile is clear: a defensive midfielder who can run, add intensity, and bring physicality.

However, there is a major obstacle on the Camavinga side. The player does not want to leave Real Madrid this summer; in Romano's words, "Camavinga wants to stay, Camavinga wants to continue at the club, Camavinga wants to be an important part of Real Madrid's project next season." As a result, the Camavinga scenario could only become possible if the player changes his mind.

The formal status of the process has also become clear. In a separate update, Romano stressed that United have not yet started official negotiations with Real Madrid over Camavinga, as the club wants the player's "green light" before initiating club-to-club talks. On the Manu Kone file, meanwhile, contact so far has only been made with the player's side, with no bid yet submitted to Roma.

The background to this search is also significant. United are looking to add a third midfielder to their squad following the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans; the search gained further urgency after the Atalanta move for Ederson was called off over his medical. It is also noted that Real Madrid are demanding around €50-60 million for Camavinga, though the player is under contract until 2029 and was left out of France's World Cup squad.
